Today’s Business Live radio programme – broadcast this morning on Sheffield Live radio (93.2FM & online) comes the day after this year’s A-Level results were published.
So what next for this year’s students? Many will head for University, others straight into work or an apprenticeship. Yesterday I caught up with one of last year’s A-Level students, Suzy Pierce, now working at Aizlewood’s Mill, to hear about how – despite her good A-Level grades – she’d decided that going straight into work would be best for her career.
Suzy asked people already doing the jobs that interested her how to get into them, and took herself to the MADE Entrepreneurship Festival and the SheffEX event to meet people. There’s some great advice for young people in this week’s programme.
And a couple of week’s ago I went along to a “Taste of China” event at The University of Sheffield, to get some tips for businesses and social enterprises wanting to trade in China*. It was also a chance to learn about a scheme matchmaking students from China, studying in Sheffield, with local businesses.
Listen to the radio show for interviews with Giles Blackburne of the China-Britain Business Council, Gintare Sauliute of UK Trade and Investment, Steve Fish of The University of Sheffield, Yiyun Ling, the GREAT Ambassadors (China) Scheme Coordinator, Mel Rippon at the South Yorkshire International Trade Centre, Yu Li, an independent consultant, Peter Newsam of UHY Hacker Young, and Sam Chapman of The Floow.
Today’s programme also includes news of a Sheffield Social Enterprise Network (SSEN) meeting and about a new investigation into entrepreneurship in disadvantaged communities.
