Today’s Business Live radio show, first broadcast this morning on Sheffield Live radio and available as a podcast below, featured an in-depth interview with Jonathan Drury, co-founder of Sheffield-based Savvy Spreads.
Savvy recently undertook an investment raise, making equity in the business available to investors via crowdfunding platform Crowdcube. They successfully exceeded their £50,000 target, raising over £87,000.
Jonathan talked through the Savvy story: from making a tasty, sweet spread based on what he enjoyed when travelling, to launching as a home-based business, then renting a kitchen from the Regather Co-operative, scaling up with a manufacturer and now investment for worldwide growth.
Along the way, the business has been supported through Sheffield Hallam University’s Enterprise Challenge; Business Sheffield; and The University of Sheffield’s Enterprise Zone.
Have a listen to the podcast below to hear the Savvy story – and Jonathan’s tips on becoming investment-ready and scaling up.
The show also included news about new CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) research into recruitment and diversity; new speakers at the MADE Festival; the growth of XLN in Sheffield; an opportunity for businesses to talk with Paul Blomfield MP on on his views on a range of business issues, particularly focusing on his work on the Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee; and an announcement about this year’s Social Saturday.
